Ignition problems

Hi guys, I've got a 1972 factory highboy that's having some starting issues. I turn the key and nothing happens. I disconnected the starter and when it is touched directly to the battery it works. I also replaced the starter solenoid. I know trucks of those years didn't have ignition modules and the voltage regulator shouldn't be an issue since that mainly regulates the alternator-to-battery power. Any input?? Any new place to start would be appreciated

check to see if you are getting power to the solenoid from the ignition switch. The ignition switches in these trucks seem to have issues if it's the original style.

I'd check that even if the solenoid may click while Turning the ign key to start position the voltage may not be going through the starter cable..
Test with a test light or volt meter..
