I have a 93 f150 4.9 and the motor doesnt seem to have its full potential. I tried seafoam in the gas vac line and oil. I noticed little to know difference. Motor had 177k on it. I heard ppl talk about putting a pint of diesel to a full tank of gas can do wonders. Can anyone shed light on that.
Has it run this way as long as you've had it? Or did it start running bad suddenly?
A can of Sea Foam made my 4,9 start a tad faster, but nothing else.
Is your truck a long wheel base? That's a lot of truck to pull with a big six engine.
That said, I'm not worried about the lack of power from my truck. It runs well, gets great gas mileage, and gets the job done, even when loaded with a load of sand, which lately, is fairly often.
It's not a strong powerful engine. It can pull as hard as anything at low speeds.
Ive only owned it for about a month. Its a short box. The last long box straight 6 i had ran circles around this one if i remember right
One thought that comes to mind is, what was the hearing on your prior truck and what is it one this truck. Rear end gearing can make a big difference in the feel of the truck.
My fuel filter does need a change it does start kinda hard. And this truck has 3.08 gearing with 31s. Yes ik that kills it a little bit. Other truck had 3.55 with the same tires and rims. On other times this truck seems to have more power than my old one. Which is what i dont understand. My old truck could be loaded right up and still have power this one does not. But unloaded this one beats the other truck.
I do not recommend putting diesel fuel in your tank. I hear Seafoam isn't that helpful on fuel injected engines. I was told by a mechanic I trust that Gumout fuel injector cleaner with 'Regane' works better in fuel injected engines. I have nothing to back that up, though. Most of the stuff you pour in is just snake oil, a way to make the manufacturer money when their product may actually do more harm than good.
If you've done a tune up and basic maintenance, it mostly sounds like the gearing to me. I hear changing from 3.08's to 3.55's can make a substantial difference.
Does your current truck have the same type of transmission as your previous one?

31s and 3.08s are a HUGE contributor to your perceived power issue IMHO.
