'86 Ball Joint Time

I need to replace my Ball joints on my 86 f150 2wd. I have watched many you tube vids and the one question I have not had answered is do you HAVE to remove the spring to do this job?? I see where the ball joint press tool will make it much easier just looking for some advise on how to make my job a little easier.

No. As long as you keep a jack under the axle to support it and the vehicle at all times, you can leave the spring alone. Don't jack it up by the frame, jack it up by the axle, that will keep the spring in place.
