1966 F100 automatic transmission problem

I wonder if someone can help me? My 66 ford truck auto transmission will not move the truck hardly at all. Started slipping and now can't be used at all. My questions are:

Can I easily replace with another used trans (live in northern cal near Sacramento)

Can I adjust bands or anything by taking off the pan.

Statement. When you put the shifter in the furthest to the right position the truck lunges like it wants to go in reverse. When it was working I could not use that position at all. Seems to me that the easiest thing would be to just swap out the trans with another. Problem is finding one of those

First off, Welcome to the FTE Forum.

I live in Sac also and if you check craigs list you will find some automatics. There is a couple of cruise-o-matics and plenty of C-6's. Did you check your fluid level? One of mine was 2 quarts low and after adding fluid it ran for years after.

I check all the time for Ford truck parts, there is a cruise-0 on CL now out of a 60's T-Bird that will most likely fit.

What engine do you have? I look for stuff for my 64 Bird and my 65 F-100 that have FE's (352 & 390) send me a PM and i will give you a couple of phone numbers of Ford Guru's in our area.

Have a good day.

I had the same problem and it was two quarts low and the first and reverse band adjuster is accessible from inside the cab the other ban is inside the tranny itself both should be tightened to three inch pounds and then backed off one full turn that's the book description in the manual

1966 F100 = TWO different A/T's, depends on the engine size.

240/300 = C4 / 352 = MX Cruise-O-Matic.

Thanks guys. I think I have a 352 - I'll look at c list to see what's available I'll also take a picture of the trans pan as not sure which one is in the truck
Thank you, john
