Hi guys. I bought a core motor a couple of years ago and finally looked at the clutch on it. The one in my truck is shot and I thought maybe it has a decent clutch, well sure enough it has a solid flywheel with a Luk clutch. I would like to buy just the disc for it, anybody know where I can get just a disc? Napa could not get the disc from luk separately. Oh, and its a 13", not sure of the stock size.
I just put my luk clutch and tranny back in my project truck last night. Could have answered this better the , but a measurement from the ring gear to the clutch disc and some math oughta tell you the diameter. I believe there are windows in the pressure plate to see the disc with the inspection plate off the tranny. Anyone the ring gear diameter off hand? I'll measure a flexplate I have in the barn tonight if not.
I always see two sizes for clutch disks on these trucks. 12" & 13"
Which trucks came with 12 and which with 13?
Is there a way to tell w/o pulling the tranny?
The 12" is for the original dual mass flywheel, all of our trucks came from the factory with those time bombs in them. The 13" is for the solid flywheel conversion. You can pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the bell housing and see if it still has the dual mass (two piece) flywheel, or if it has been converted to a solid (one piece) flywheel. If it still has the dual mass flywheel in it, I suggest converting it to a solid flywheel. The dual mass are notorious for coming apart, and can take the trans out with it. It's not a matter of IF they come apart, it's a matter of WHEN! That's why they are ticking time bombs.

Thanks!
I was aware of the DMF failures and that's one of the things I always get rid of on these trucks.
Haven't had one explode on me personally but I've seen the aftermath.... Not pretty and defiantly not cheap.
