My buddy's diesel has a Garrett turbo on it and that thing is bad ***. It gets it when towing anything!
I would think that a turbo would be better than a supercharger simply because the turbo is using the air coming from the exhaust and therefore buring what's left of the exhaust....whereas a supercharger is belt driven.
Also remember that if you have a gasoling powered vehicle that you might need to use higher octane fuel for the turbo to work properly.
Of course I am sure that everyone has an opinion and they will all be different.
If you are looking to add torque to your engine I think that the turbo is what you want.
Turbos don't burn anything (hopefully). They use hot exhaust gas to spin a turbine and compress air. Supercharger is the same idea only driven off the engine. Both may require higher octane.
A supercharger and Turbo use the same concept and I agree that on a Diesel the Turbo is the best way to go. But on a gasoline powered engine I have always like the supercharger better. No matter what you go with you SHOULD DEFINATELY use the higher octane fuel. Bottom line is that you should look at what is out there for your application and make the best decision based on your needs/wants.
Check out the new issue of Hot Rod magazine. They did a comparison between a turbo charger, roots blower, and a centrifical blower.
They used the exact same engine for all three test and the turbo spanked them all of the way thru the powerband in HP and torque. The turbo is almost free power because there is only a slight increase in backpressure, but no belts to drag, throw or replace. They key is to get the properly sized turbo for your engine.

ok i got a 97 5.4L V8 f-150. i'm also in-between the supercharger and the turbocharger what does anyone think ..man y did they have to make both haha ....
i think that for a gasoline engine i would go with a supercharger. ford did not put a turbo on the lightning they used a supercharger, and i would think that they were aiming for as much hp and torque they could get out of the 5.4 or 5.8 (depending on year) that they could.
ok thanks. check out this website http://www.ultimateresourceguides.com/turbo/index.html i wouldn't even be thinking about a turbo if it wasn't for this web site. I probably will buy the Pro Charger kit though, just seems like the way to go. But is there anymore advice you can give me about what the heck to do with my truck?
