Using plasti dip on wheels question

When I "dipped" my the wheels on my wives VW Beetle convertible, I simply used plastic bags with painters tape wrapped tightly around the rim. I ensured there was a physical gap between the tap and the rim because that is the key to plasti-dip working well.
Here we are almost 2 years later and they still look like the day I did them. To each their own, but I got her a set of "custom wheels" for $40 and a few hours. Take your time and don't rush it and they will turn out great.

Cards come right out. I even reused them for 3rd and 4th wheels.
I can't afford after market so this was great for me. Midnite's truck gave me the idea. One day I may use bedliner like he did.
Getting new tires put on soon. I think I will go with black sidewalls with the black wheels.
What's everyone's preference on tire face with black wheels??
Trying to break up the truck some. The wife and daughter call it my Grandpa truck. LOL
Bumpers will be next.

I did my wheels and bumpers 2 years ago. They've held up great with minimal touchups. I've had the truck buried to the frame in mud twice with a 4 wheels spinning and no damage to the dip.
I have had to do some minor touchups to my front bumper. After years of weather/bugs/rocks hitting it at 70 mph it has a few specs of chrome showing through. I just wipe it clean and then respray those spots to keep the finish even.
I do plan on pulling my bumpers at some point and re-doing them. The back has started peeling around the bottom edges from road debris coming off the rear tires.
Another benefit its that it will protect the finish underneath. I hit a cat at work last winter on accident and dragged the right front corner of my bumper against the doors. It peeled the PlastiDip off but didn't even scratch the chrome underneath.
I'll try to grab some updated pictures tomorrow.

Be sure to check your lug nuts a few times. The ones on my wives car were a bit loose once they settled into the dipped/painted surface of the wheel. After I torqued them down again they were fine and remained tight on the wheel. Of course on the VW it is lug bolts and not nuts, but the same idea probably still applies.
