Hi guys,
I just bought a 1995 f150 5.0 4x4. When I bought it the 4wheel drive worked fine. I got it home and it worked the first day or two. Now it seems that the front right hub is not engaging. How hard are they to fix? I have never had one apart. The hanyes manual I looked at was not very clear. Help.
It looks a lot more intimidating than it really is. I just swapped mine (although it was a manual to manual swap), and it was pretty easy once I had the right tools. I spent almost 2 hours trying to remove the retaining clip until I finally went to NAPA and got a set of picks. Had the clip out in 5 seconds then. The auto to manual swap might be a little more complicated if you have the 3-screw caps and need the adapter kit, but should be do-able for someone with "average" wrench skills.
Note: I first tried Warn hubs when I did my swap. They did not fit. Warn's tech support person told me I'd have to go with a different brand. I bought a set of Mile Markers and they slid in perfectly.
