It's not just the upper.. the lower is just as big, but it's anybody's guess why the 5.0 truck motor got a bigger intake than any other 5.0 motor in the lineup and bigger than the 5.8 even. The upside is it doesn't need to be upgraded when building the motor, you could even build a 347 stroker and not need a larger intake.

There is no valve lash adjustment on these engines. Never heard of checking it with the lifter bled down either, the only check I know is that the rockers should torque to spec 1/4 to 1/2 turn after all slack comes out of the pushrod.
