Hey guys, so my truck has a 351W with a 4bbl edelbrock on it. It's got some issues such as stalling when the engine is cold, an exhaust leak, etc. It's a project truck..
I recently decided to fix the exhaust leak which was caused by a broken (really broken) heat riser, which I was told I no longer need due to having the 4bbl carb. Well the donut the guy gave me doesn't fit which I figured would be the case, but I really don't want to spend $90 on a new heat riser if I don't need it.
Does anyone know where I can buy a spacer for an 85 f150? I can find them for chevy engines but I can't seem to locate one for a ford.. Not sure if I should just try to find one in a junkyard somewhere instead.
I think you are going to need a new exhaust manifold. Or braze/weld up your old heat riser and re-install it with the guts removed. Check a place that sells the manifolds, I believe you will find numbers for one with no heat riser, and ones with a heat riser. The ones with will have a flat outlet, the ones without will have the ball socket made into the manifold outlet.
I doubt there is anything wrong with the exhaust manifold.
The OP was given a donut gasket which doesn't fit, which is not surprising...considering that Ford never installed any gasket originally!
Only 1980/83 E/F100/350 & Bronco 4.9L (300 I-6) used a donut gasket.
All other 1980/89's don't use a donut or any other type of gasket (see parts catalog pics) between the inlet pipe and the manifold, with/without the valve.

What happens to it: The flapper gets stuck in the open position.
Some people gut the valve by removing the flapper, then weld it up.
I got an exhaust control valve for my 86 351 4v carb. at a local "Cole Muffler" shop, for about $50 with the gasket that goes between the valve and manifold.
