Hello all. This is my first post. I have a 2001 Ranger Edge, 4.0L, SOHC and my check engine light is on. I am taking a shot in the dark and going to try and replace my PCV valve in order to save some bucks from a dealer. The problem stems from not being able to locate the PCV valve. Any help would be great.
I can be reached at prey76(No Email Addresses In Posts!) or just here on the forum.

Instead of wasting time and money on this, go to the local autoparts place and have them check the codes. They usually do it for free. I doubt your PCV valve is causing the code

I agree with greenpus, the first thing you need to do is to have the codes pulled from your computer. Many auto parts stores (e.g., Autozone) will pull your codes for free.
If you get the codes and post them here then we will be better able to help you solve your problem.
IMO, trying out new parts without first knowing the codes is not a good approach.
thanks for the input. I will check with AutoZone regarding a code read.
regardless of whether or not the PCV valve is causing the problem, the thing needs replaced, or at least that is what the manuals say.....every 10,000 miles. Can anyone be of assistance on locating the thing?
I believe it is every 100,000 miles on the 4.0 and every 60,000 on the (2.5) 4 bangers. I think the newer 2.3 engines went from every 60,000 to 120,000 miles. If no one posts the location of the PCV by tonight, I will look through my ford manual when I get home and post it.

I looked in my Ford service manual and it really does not have a picture of the location. It just says it is in the valve cover. Check both valve covers.
You might try your question about the PCV valve location in the Explorer Forum since the Explorers have been using those 4.0L SOHCs for several years now. OR you can maybe try that question in the 2.6-4.0 and SOHC V6 Forum.
