Question new brakes

HI All;
So I have redone the front end on my Ranger and have also replaced the front calipers, rotors and brake lines.
I am trying to bleed the system and wondering if I have to pre load the calipers somehow as I can't seem to get much pedal pressure happening.
I also read (after removing the line at the master cylinder) that you should plug the hole immediately after removing the brakes from the Master cylinder or air may get in and then you need a special tool (spelled expnsive) or take it in to a Ford dealer.
Has anyone had experience with this situation?
Any help is appreciated

Sounds like you need to bleed your master cylinder...pull the lines off and cap them, then hook some temporary lines up the MC fittings and loop them back into the MC chambers...each to its own. Then fill the MC almost to the top with fluid and have a bud slowly pump the brake pedal until you don't see any bubbles coming from the lines in the MC chambers. Then reconnect the brake lines as quick as you can and do the regular bleeding process. Of course, this assumes that your MC is good to begin with?

It looks like there is just one chamber but for the Master cylinder i.e. there is only one lid/opening, it is a plastic container.

And the brakes were working fine before so I assume the mc is still okay , no problem previously.

If you had the lines off at the MC and someone moved the pedal it could have sucked air in, if you didn't have the lines off at the MC my advice is worthless. Your lack of pedal could also be a wheel cylinder leaking a little, or a bleed valve at a wheel not fully closed. Not unusual to have spongy pedal until you get to about wheel 3 when you're bleeding brakes...it should start to tighten up by then unless you have a problem somewhere.
