Used Injectors???
While searching for a new solenoid, which have on order, I came across a used set of "like new", of course, injectors from a private party. They are seven, #AB1822803C1 and one #AB182125C2 for $555.00.
He said he bought them for his 99.5 PSD but then found out they were for the earlier model.
This is my first diesel and have only had it for 4 years. I am tempted to purchase them for spare parts but I wanted to here from some of the guys with more experience before I did that.
What do you think?
I was really feeling unsure about them myself and I still need to get out there and get the valve cover off. There is a dealer sticker on the back that is from Utah so I want to confirm what's in there now.
The thing that pushed me to consider it was the $520.00 out the door price the local dealer wanted for a rebuilt one. I think I'll keep that money for now.
Thanks again, Mike

So far I've,
1. ohmed the UVC harness, it's good.
2. Replaced the harness and ran it with the cover off @ cold idle. There was NO MISS!!!! It was hot when the problem started?
Also there was a very very low oil flow from the #8 injector?? I read on line, that means the injector is not working properly.
I also think at normal operating temp either the solenoid or the #8 injector may be less productive and or fail.
I need to leave again, but hope to return home in time to replace the valve cover and take it out for run.
Thanks for the help, Mike

The AB's had inferior parts like the '94 - '97 AO/AA's did so there's a high chance even those will need a LOT of new parts to make them function properly.
Ohming the Solenoids is a great way to tell if the Solenoids are spent or not, but you must ohm them right at the solenoid and not through the harness. To do this properly you must determine the offset of your ohmmeter. For example, when I cross the leads on mine it reads 0.4 ohms, if you have a really good quality ohmmeter it should read 0.0. A good solenoid with my ohmmeter will read between 2.8 and 3.2. If you do the same taking into consideration your offset and get 2.7, I'll bet anything it is a bad solenoid and will give you issues.
Otherwise it could be any number of things.
If you routinely see #8 coming up as an issue, replace your cam sensor and run it again. The new cam sensors almost always show issues with the #8 injector, and the truck may or may not run well because of that.
Good luck.

I also like the idea of eliminating some of the easy to do possibilities. I'm going to drain & change the fuel filter and try to locate a cam position sensor locally or order one. I assume Ford or NAPA will be the best local choices.
If I get the valve cover back on and it isn't missing as yesterday, I will drive it to see what, if anything happens at normal operating temp.
Thanks, Mike

I replaced the fuel filter yesterday and was really surprised at the amount of trash in the bowl. I used about a gal. of diesel flushing it out, and the drain tube stopped up several times in the process. I assume I filled up just after the fuel delivery truck left the station. There was a lot of light gray silt, rust particles and other debris. It was really ugly.
I put things back together and it started immediately as usual, and it was running good with no miss. I took it out and ran it up to normal operating temperature, it ran as good as ever. What a relief! Hopefully this isn't an intermittent problem.
I wasn't able to get a good connection on the solenoid pins so I will check it when the new one comes in and I replace it. I also need to pick up a cam sensor and install it and change the oil.
If it continues to run good I have a later model turbo, pedestal, up pipes, and manifolds I would like to install, maybe next year. Retirement is sooo good!!!!
Thanks again for all the help, Mike
