Hi there,
I have a 1995 f-150 eddie bauer edition, 351W with e40d automatic tranny. Im having an issue with the truck that has thrown me for a bit of a loop. I noticed on day after coming into town of the highway that the truck SLAMMED into gear when it was put in drive and reverse, and then seemed to shift extremely hard when it went into first, and second gear (less noticeable in the other gears). Also upon start-up the truck had a bit of an erratic idle(not too crazy), and a whining type noise,. I ended up relacing my battery a couple days later(as it needed one) and upon reconnection of the battery, all problems went away- the truck drove great, lots of pep in the throttle, and shifted smooth! After another 2 hour drive about a week later, the same thing happened again! As well, when the problems subsided the week earlier, I could feel a shudder or vibration in the truck, but only when I was going at about 70km/hr, and only when I punched on the gas- if I accelerated slowly, there was no shudder. Disconnecting, then re-connecting the battery fixes the problem each time, until it is driven on the highway for long distances (or so it seems) So I am just trying to figure out what is going on. To help, here is a list of what I have done to the truck in the past year:
New tires and inner tie rod; got wheel alignment done(2 weeks ago)
rebuilt power steering gearbox
rear u-joint (on main driveshaft)
new leaf springs
transmission oil and filter change(1 week ago)
new distributor, cap and rotor(1.5 years ago)
new spark plugs (all gapped) and plug wires (6 months ago)
new iac (idle air control valve)
new ignition coil
new fuel pump
transfer case oil changed (6 months ago) and new rear tc oil seal
New transmission mount (5 days ago)
Any advice would really be appreciated!

As Conanski would say "have you pulled any codes?" All disconnecting the battery does is reset the pcm, then when next you drive the fault comes back. E40d is controlled by pcm, it's telling you there is a problem but need codes to know where trouble lies.
Just need jumper wire to pull codes. Haynes, Chiltons, and several threads on this site will tell you how. Just have notepad ready to record flashes of cel.
ok so i pulled some codes this morning, KOER gave me 167, then 632. Did the test again, reved it longer, turned OD off and got 111(pass). KOEO gave me 111 (pass), so sound like it might/might not be the TPS?
CM = Computer Memory.
After the KOEO electrical test gets done there is a space code and the the CM codes flash out.
The CM codes are the codes that you are most interested in.
Note if you disconnect the battery the CM codes will be lost.
I had disconnected the battery about 4 days ago, and the truck hasnt acted up since before that, so the codes are lost then? Would I have to drive it until it acts up again, then re check the ecm?
