T18 Rebuild question

T18 Rebuild question
I am sorry I didn't take picture of the part in question. Looking at the outside of the top cover of my T18 there are 3 caps on each end of the cover. They look like freeze 3/4 inch plugs put in backwards. What is behind those and should they be addressed in a "rebuild"?

Those will be the shift rails that the shifting forks slide on and usually are not a problem just check them for smoothness and play , if things were shifting ok you should be fine with them as is
