optimas are good...but my die hard gold is working flawlessly....i can leave the lights on for hours on end and come back and she'll still fire right up. 1000 cranking amp battery. and for half the price of an optima.
Ive got a optima and am happy with it. I went for a gell because I was killing batteries every 2-3 years. I think the high speed beating up logging mains wasn't helping them. A buddy had changed over to optima and said they are tougher than normal lead acid. That was a year ago so I've yet to see how long I get out of one. Go to the optima site and do some reading.
i was into boats befor trucks, than i got my liscence and realizaed how much i was killign my battery so i decided to go witha good marine battery witha long reserve and liek 650 marine cranking amps. its lasted through everything, left the lightson one day while i was in school, 6hrs later the truck started right up. and i find them to be cheaper than most batteries.
My Optima Red top is now about 7.5 years old, and I have had no problems with it in those seven plus years. I do not use it for winching, but it has survived miles upon miles of rattling roads and countless jumpstarts to other vehicles.
i have an optima, and the thing starts every time, i have left lights on all day, no water to fill, 3 year free replacement warranty, now they are getting lower in cost every day and for how close they are to any other price i wont buy anything but another optima.
I run a red and yellow in my 150. Nothing beats them. Had a buddy launch his red top into his fan while wheeling. Cut off 1.5 cells. Picked it up put it back on the tray and it restarted. Fan was done and so was the battery but it made it home.
Depends what you do with it. Red top is more for like starting a vehicle and running the normal systems. The yellow top is a deepcycle battery. It can handle longer deeper power pulls better than a red top. It has a lower CCA rating but it can be discharged and recharged more times than a red top. In my 150 the red runs the truck, the yellow runs the winch and my 8 big lights.
The Optima isn't worth the extra $50-100 unless you plan to mount it sideways or expect to roll your truck. Read the specs and warranty stipulations off the Optima website and then check out the Motorcraft Silver Series for $80 with half again the CCAs, ~twice the reserve time, and nearly double the warranty.
hey i got my optima for 80 bucks, with more cca so thats why i wouldn't buy any other battery. optima has brought their prices way down in the last year or so and started selling at more auto stores.
