Check Eng. Light Code:401/402 -96 Explore

I have problem with my 96 explore check eng. light

I pulled the codes: 401 and 402...replaced the EGR value and still have the check Eng. Light on.

Someone told me its the DPFE sensor.

What is a DPFE Sensor and where is it located?

Thanks..

Hello, and welcome to FTE!

It very well could be a bad DPFE causing the codes. Here are a few threads on the subject of the DPFE:

I know the dealer wants $129 for one, I took mine off and cleaned out the carbon slugde so that the piston operates now. Mine had frozen up, runs like a dream now. (97Explorer)

I take it you are referring to the 4.0. The 96 5.0 does not have a DPFE sensor - it has an internal EGR on the intake elbow. Didn't want you looking for it if you have the 5.0...

I meant digitech's Explorer...

The 96 and early 97 5.0's don't have the DPFE...

Digitecsys,

Welcome to FTE! Please do not post in all caps - it makes it hard to read sometimes. I am not familiar with that part number. What sensor is it, and what code have you gotten from the CEL?

I am getting the code 401/402 code.

I dont know what the name of the sensor is. But it mounts to the back of the EGR Value which has three bolts. My car is a 96 Explore V8.

if its a 96 or newer model you will have to have a scanner to turn the engine light off, and disconnecting the battery will not do it either.

F2ZZ-9G428-B is an EGR position sensor if I am not mistaken.
