Intercooler Boot

I was under a hard acceleration this morning and I heard the loud band of a tire but it was my intercooler pipe had blown off. I am heading out of town on a camping trip on Thursday. I would like a Riff Raff part but I may have to do with another brand. Should I get the Dorman from Advance or go to the dealer tomorrow? Does any other parts house carry a decent boot?

A Gates hose kit is located in a town not too far away, has anybody used one of those? it is twice the price of the Dorman.

I would get the dorman kit for now and order riff raff set. Keep the dorman set as a spare.

Just tried to put the old hose back on, cleaning, hair spray and torquing, no luck, blew off under easy accel, my poor hood took a hit one time it popped. I have a call into auto parts store to see if they can get one. The Dorman one is a factory direct ship and will take 11 days to arrive.

Call Clay at Riffraff Monday morning, I think he can get one to you before Thursday. He's pretty quick at getting parts out.

What connection is blowing out, at turbo/intercooler/or intake?

It is the turbo to intercooler pipe (hood denter).

I see there is a parts change in 2005, mine is a later. I can't get that one till tomorrow.

Her is Gates listing.I will give Clay a call.

I had that problem on a trip towing my trailer. The clamp kept slipping down the hose the more I tried to tighten it. My temporary fix was to wrap a piece of emery cloth around the hose, grit side down, under the clamp. Don't know how long it would have held as it was only 20 miles to the nearest Ford dealer where I got a new hose and clamps.

The best solution is to spray some cheap (and I mean cheap, Final Net, White Rain) hair spray on the mating parts and assemble. You'll need a crowbar to get it off later.

That was my problem, the clamp kept slipping down. Fortunately when it blew I was 3 miles from home not towing so I limped on home.

The first boot that came it was for an 03-04, O'reillys web site showed the wrong one for a late 05. The correct hose will be in tomorrow. It is pretty bad when you have so many cars and you frequent the store the parts guy knows who you are when you call.

Ford gave me the wrong one the first time. The second time I brought the old one and my VIN number with me and the one the parts guide showed was still not the right one. Luckily they had the right one.

One thing to check if you keep blowing boots off.
Has the CAC pipe been crushed by over torquing
the clamp. If this is the case then a new clamp
and use a muffler pipe expander to open the
CAC pipe back up or just replace it.

I did look at that and the tube is round so I don't think over torque is an issue.
