1 U Ford Crank

I was just given a 1 U crank by my son. The flex plate that he gave me is NOT counter balanced nor is the front dampener counter balanced. I am going to make my spare 390 into a 410. I am sure I need a counter balanced flex plate but was told I do not need a counterbalanced dampener. I am planning on balancing the whole assembly, so do I or do I not need a counter balanced dampener for my 69 C-6, soon to be 410?

A 1 U crank is a 428 externally balanced crank.........

If you are having the entire rotating assembly balanced, then you would not need the counterbalanced flexplate, which are a pain to locate.......
360/390 flexplates, on the other hand, are stupid easy to locate.

No, the crank damper is zero-balanced on all the FE engines.

If you get the crank zero-balanced, you don't need to worry about finding the correct flywheel/flex plate.
