Defrost not working!

Defrost not working. Looking for the vacuum pump so I can troubleshoot it. Can some tell me where to find it in the engine bay and advice on trouble shooting it other than listening to whether it's on or not when engaging 4x4? Thanks, JC

Starting to wonder if there is a vacuum pump even. I traced the hub lines all the way up to a little doohickey on the side of the coolant reservoir (I think). I'm at a loss…

There is a pump. If you look at the tech folder and download the bible that should help with parts id.

It is somewhere around the Primary water pump if I recall.

Thanks Senix. I had a look in the tech folder and don't see anything that looks like a service manual. I'll keep poking around...

Ah, I see what you are referring to now in the DTS. However, that link doesn't work for me and I cannot register for their site because I am not a Ford technician.

Vacuum Pump
The vacuum pump is located on the
upper portion of the front cover and is
driven by the high pressure fuel pump.
Vacuum is used for the EGR cooler
bypass system and the wastegate
control system.

If you follow the vacuum line from the degas bottle to the front of the motor by the HPFP then you should see it with a flashlight.

There may be some helpful information in there about your pump. There are a few pics.

I thought any necessary vacuum was generated by the power steering pump

You're thinking more about "Hydro-boost" which is a totally different system and method, but it performs all the same work as what a vacuum pump on the powerstroke does.

I went to the dealer and looked at the fiche. Looks like the vacuum pump doesn't run the hvac flapper like previous trucks. There is an electric motor now. I picked it up for $160 but I think I need to rip the dash apart to replace it.

Yeah, was going to say, vacuum doesn't operate the HVAC blend doors.

I spoke to my brother-in-law and he thinks that the problem might be due to the modulator behind the glove box. Is there even such a thing on the newer fords?
