Figured I'd ask questions separate from our 55 F100 build thread. The IFS front wasn't originally in the plan, but came across a complete 2004 Crown Vic for $800. Any reason why the 8.8 rear can't be converted to leaf springs?
I did it with a 97 model crown vic rear, then swapped the guts for limited slip. 40,000 mile rear axle only set me back $130.00, another $100 for a used limited slip from an 8.8 mustang and mine was rolling.
Trimmed all the hangers and mounted the leaf perches. If I had it to do over I would have used the four link setup from the crown vic............
My personal opinion was that the 03 and up models were a little too wide.
Everything I read mentions the 03-07 IFS as being a "little" too wide limiting wheel selection, but hasn't seemed to stop anyone. Using both front and rear with all the extra's, disc brakes, steering, matching width, lug patterns etc. seems it would make buying the donor Crown Vic more economical than upgrading/modifying the stock "55" suspension. I'm out of my experience level on this type of build, and most build threads are a little sketchy on details. Got the fab skills, but not used to modern technology.
At the hamb, if you go to my profile and look at my images you can see much more of my work. When they upgraded the site it lost the links to my albums.
Keep in mind the F100's rear (between the fenders) is 2" less than if measured across the front fenders. With the Cv suspension up front, the wheels just fit under the fenders. So the rear will force you to go to the 3" wider fenders.

Appreciate it. That's a detail I have missed in my reading.
