I have a 1981 F-150 with the 8' bed, the 302/5.0L V8, automatic and dual tanks. We drive this truck fairly infrequently, but even so, the fuel system is need of a major-ish overhaul. This is due to rotting and cracking fuel lines, two bad sender units, and a dysfunctional tank switcher valve. I've sourced all required replacements from Rockautoparts.com, but have now run into a seemingly impassable roadblock in the project... No one seems to have an exact replacement for the switcher valve at all! The original has three ports for gas, which is simplistic. Also simplistic is the electrical terminal on it, wherein the problem lies, as it only has one large pin. I thought this to be normal, but it seems like that's not the case, as all replacements have four or more electrical connections! I usually deal with problems like this on my own, but this time i'm truly stumped. Help please!
i have an 85 that has the same valve except it has two wires gong to it and quick disconnects going to the fuel lines. i tried that part no. at autozone and i does not exist in there computer so they tried to sell me one with 6 ports and told me i would have to adapt it.
This 3 port valve was first installed in 1985 .. ebay seller listed the applications.
Here's the valve I believe the OP wants:
E3TZ-9189-D (replaced E0TZ-9189-A) .. Fuel Tank Selector Valve & Solenoid Assy - Use with mechanical fuel pump - 3 ports / Obsolete
There is another thread on this exact same topic titled 84 f-150 / The OP has a 1984 F150 351W, but the valve is the same.
Post 6: I listed this Ford part number, ID numbers, applications, last MSRP & dealer net cost, sources that have this valve NOS .. so I'd rather not have to do it again.
O"Reilly's has it. Part number FSV1. 60 bux. Had one in my 76 F350 but for reasons unknown one of the ports cracked and broke. Has 5/16 diameter ports. My truck has 3/8 fuel line so i had to figure out a way to adapt it.
