AC seats
AC seats
Ok guys and gals...I have a question for you.
I use my AC seats a lot and it does seem like they really do not "cool" all that great. I always have them on high when I use them. I think I read somewhere that someone had something blocking the airflow like a piece of the cushion of the seat.
The heating works awesome on the seat and I have checked the filter for the fan and it is completely clean. I do hear the fan running as well. Has anyone found a way to get the cooling to flow better? I would think it should almost freeze your a$$ off on high. From what I have been reading the system used with the F150 is a Peltier heater/cooler?
Anyone?...Bueller...Bueller?

Mine will freeze your butt.
I paid attention coming home, about 10 minutes on High, 10 minutes on Med. and 20 minutes on low was all I could take.
Will make your butt tingle.
The unit in the seat back is much smaller, there are times I am not sure it is running... then there are times it feels good.
I have wondered if you could rig a seat bottom unit into the back.
Probably freeze you out.

I use my cooled seats a lot and it has yet to freeze me out....if anything I was a little disappointed. I would think it should want to freeze you out on high but sadly it does not. Maybe I should have the dealer take a look at it?
I learned a lot about the heated/cooled seats from a mechanic friend when my son was fighting a problem with one of his heated seats. Among the many things that he suggested to check out was the plastic air duct inside the seat that sometimes, but not too often, can get crushed inhibiting airflow. My son's seat worked fine on cool so that was not his issue. His issue turned out to be a bum fuse for the TED seat heater.
Well according to the dealer the cooled seats are nothing more than seats with a fan on them. There is no peltier system...all it does is blow ambient air into the seats and their thought was heat rises so it would normally pull the cooler air from the seat bottom. So I would imagine having the AC on and on your feet would be the best option to have your seat cool better??
They said everything checked out for the seat blowers etc.
I also wanted them to check the transmission for a delayed engagement when the tranny is cold. They will have to keep it overnight and I asked for a loaner and they responded with we do not give loaners while on warranty!
I was not happy at all and told them to come get me so I could just pick up my truck. The service writer called me back after a few minutes and said he secured a rental for me. I asked how much this is going to cost me and he said it wasn't. It's amazing that this dealer does not have regular loaners. (they do for Lincoln customers though!!)

They said everything checked out for the seat blowers etc.It is easy enough to check... if yours was working.
Does the passenger seat work?
If it does, start the truck, turn the A/C off and the cooled seat on.
That is the easiest way to tell for yourself.
I would get Crystal involved ASAP.
Lying is unacceptable.

Well as it turns out they found no issues with the cooled seats. Filters were clean and they said both seats work within specs. The tech said the cooled s are get their cool air from your AC being on through ducts.
Again, not true.
Another way to check is to open the seat back and look at the unit there.
Easy to do.
Unzip the two zippers, unhook the middle section and there it is.
BTW, I have a 12/12 built 13' Platinuim.
It essentially is just a fan
That is not correct.

The temperature differences between the individual heated and cooled settings is minimal. For example, it is difficult to distinguish between LOW cool and MED cool settings. Measuring seat temperature at different settings is possible by monitoring the DCSM PIDs using the scan tool.
Heating Characteristics
- In heat mode, the TED can add up to 40-60°C (72-108°F) to the ambient inlet air temperature as it passes over the TED .
- The system control settings are indicated next to each climate controlled seat heat switch button on the touchscreen. The first setting is HIGH (3 indicators), the second setting is MED (2 indicators) and the third is LOW (1 indicator) then OFF (no indicators).
- When heating, the DCSM varies the speed of the blowers and the TED duty cycle in order to reach and maintain the temperature determined by the switch setting.
- In cool mode, the TED can remove up to 8°C (14°F) from the ambient air temperature entering the system.
- The system control settings are based on the 3 indicators next to each climate controlled seat cool switch button on the touchscreen. The first setting is HIGH (3 indicators), the second setting is MED (2 indicators) and the third is LOW (1 indicator) then OFF (no indicators).
- When cooling, the DCSM maintains constant speed of the blowers and constant TED supply voltage (the duty cycle is determined by the switch setting) in COOL mode.
What seat material do you have? I got the appearance package seats which have leather but suede inserts. The suede has much large holes than the al leather seats do. My a/c cools pretty good and the heat is amazingly good. My old 350 only heated the bottom, these go up the back part too. I have nothing but praise for my seats performance.
Each driver and front passenger seat cushion and backrest is equipped with a Thermo-Electric Device (TED) and blower motor assembly. Applying voltage to the TED in one direction causes it to heat. Applying voltage polarity in the opposite direction causes the TED to cool. Cabin air is drawn through the blower and distributed to each of the TED modules located in the seat cushion and backrest. The TEDs then heat or cool the incoming air depending on the control switch settings. The air is then directed into the foam pad and manifold where it is distributed along the surface of the cushion and backrest of the seat. Once activated, the DCSM maintains the heating/cooling modes until deactivated.
