ok, i found the wires broke on overdrive in steering.. 2001 ford explorer sport..is there a special way to wire them? the wires are both grey under the black sheath....if i try to hook them up one way... i get a spark, then blow a fuse.. if i hook them up the other way i get no spark and dont blow a fuse, but do not see the overdrive light turn on on dash....please help?.....
Ok so there's only two wires there? Both of them gray, and the switch itself does NOT have an OD OFF light in it at all because the light is on the dash, right?
Can you explain what two "ways" you tried wiring them up? If there's only two wires, I can only think of one way to connect them together...
yes 2 wires come from button from end of shift lever...i found wire broke inside steering column...but both wires are grey..no positive or negative color on the wires for hooking them up...they are 2 little grey wires in a black sheath...

What wire is broken, one of the two in the sheath? Find the two ends that are broken and reconnect them. Where the two wires go into the OD button, just connect them back like normal and you should be good to go.
If not, let me know and we'll have to do some troubleshooting. Do you have a multimeter that you know how to operate? Don't take that question as me being rude, it just seems like you don't have much electrical experience so I wanted to make sure.
i would think you can hook them up any way being the same color...obviously i can;t because it will blow fuse...maybe its in the switch? Or by where it plugs in under dash...
I posted in the other thread that you asked your question in. I'll try to confirm that these wires just go to a switch and back to a module somewhere. It sounds like you have a wires shorted to either power or ground that shouldn't be. I wouldn't expect these wires to be carrying much current at all, by design, and certainly not enough to spark.
when i try to reconnect the the wires it will spark ,but.....if i connect them the opposite way...there is no spark, and yes,i replaced fuse,if there wasnt a fuse,i would not have power...meaning continuity..
