Not sure why you would do that. The idi weights in at at about 1,000 lbs what would you use for springs on a poor mustang. And it would be a little tough to get 10.25 or a dana 80 under the rear.
Novelty only. A stock 302 or 4.6 already has enough torque to light up the tires. Add a SC or turbo and bam superstang. There are however some neat diesel mustangs on youtube. Guess its all in how fat your wallet is.
Go for it! You can pick up Fox body rollers for next to nothing these days. She will be an absolute pig handling-wise (the IDI weighs like 400 lbs more than 460, right?), but cool!
what a waste of time and effort lmao.these are old heavy work horse truck engines.
put something nasty in there like this and have some fun; https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...0-stroker.html
you don't need to go all out like that.you can get 400-500 ponies effortlessly with an econo 400 build (iv done it......it's scary and im not even kidding.) just try and not kill yourself.
We'll my idea behind it was just a "for fun" kind of thing wanted to try it out and see where it goes, I mean people have also done a powerstroke swap and me being an IDI lover I thought why not!
Might work on the Bonneville Salt flats. If you plan on turning that thing, I'm with Ford, not a great idea! FWIW a full dressed 7.3 is well over 1250 LBS.
@e150 I'm sure the IDI does weigh more than a dmax or cummins or a PSD but like an earlier poster said, it's novelty idea, and I was thinking that if it works out the it works out if not, then Orwell, I figure almost anything is worth a shot, and I think I'd have some fun givin it a try.
