Turn signal Question

I recently removed my box and put on a set up for rear stop lamps and Taillights/brake lights. It uses 2 amber colored lights for the tail lights and 2 reds for the brake lights. The stop lamps work when I press the brake and the tail lights work when the running lights are on, but when I turn right or left the corresponding side will shut off that side tail light and turn on the brake light. The light in the cab as well as the front light stays lite and does not flash. Seems to me that the turn signal is actually lite from the brake light when the normal light set up is on the truck. Anyone have any idea how to fix this so I can have turn signals? Also I have checked for a grounding issue because usually a solid light on means a fault somewhere but this can't apply because both light systems work as they should until I apply the turn signal. Any input would be appreciated.

sounds like a bad ground. the light bulbs are grounding through the other light.

That's is how I have it wired both lights on each side share the same ground. I'm starting to think they need be grounded separately for this to work since they don't share the same bulb/socket anymore

I can't explain it, but they just won't work the way you have them now. They must share the same socket. If you wany signals seperate from the brake lights you have to run that from the tow package lights (if so equipped).

The tow package wont work either, they just tap off of the rear turn/brake light wires for the tow package.

If you want separate brake lights and turn signals, your going to have to tap off the front turn signals for the rear and run a wire from the brake switch for brake lights, or you maybe able to use a trailer converter to do the samething as i know there are 3 wire to 2 wire converters, not sure if they make a 2 wire to 3 wire converter.

In a 7 pin connector there is one pin that is stop/turn light and another that is stop light only. There is not one that is turn light only, I should have clarified that. I think the only way to get turn signal only is to run a wire (or 2) from the front turn signals all the way back to the rear.

Your truck is designed with combination brake/turn lights. You would have to reconfigure your turn signal switch to separate the brake and turn wires like you are trying to do. This also would not be compatible with standard trailer wiring because they always use combined brake/turn lights.

If you must do this, you will need to disconnect your brake light switch from your turn signal switch and run a new separate brake light circuit to the back of your truck.

If you intend to pull a trailer, you will need an adapter to recombine the brake and turn signals for the trailer connector.
