The Speed Needle works fine.
But...the Odometer part quit some time ago.
I can't tell what my fuel Mileage is now.
Who knows how to troubleshoot this problem?
Things that might affect this problem; Transmission skids loudly when going in and out of 4-OD. It could be the Torque converter clutch?
The Gear shift lever is sloppy. Doesn't fill me with Confidence.
Brake fluid warning light is on most of the time. Fluid level is up hi though.
Drivers door mirror control switch don't work in one direction Who on this Forum has a Switch for me?
You are playing with fire, literally, By not fixing the brake fluid warning switch.
The other problems, take them one at a time and do a search. The odometer has been covered many times and requires disassembly and resoldering on the circuit board.
requires disassembly and resoldering on the circuit board.
Holy smokes! DejaVu all over again. I used to work on Circuit boards...back in another century.
I am not looking forward to pulling that whole Dash cluster outta my Daily Driver.
I wonder if that Fluid sensor problem has a Recall on it? MY other 97 had a Brake light switch recall. I'll stop at the FOMOCO and see.
Here is the link. -> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...lem-fixed.html
i had same issue with odemeter.. blank or flashing goofy digits. Drove me nuts for a year. All better. Haven't seen the issue return in a long while.
The brake warning light is the same one that lights up when you set the park brake is it not? Maybe the switch on your park brake pedal is out of adjustment.
No!
The Handbrake, and Brake emergency etc. is on the left side.
The one I'm talking about is on the Right, and shows circles representing shoes & Drums.
Well this is not going very well at all.
I pulled the Three screws out of the Dash Bezel.
Next I went to pop out the Headlight switch....ooops! The Bezel popped off the switch.
Am I missing something? A screw maybe?
But the Bezel came loose. It's broken! This wasn't supposed to happen.
The whole light switch was supposed to pop out by prying from the bottom.
I almost did the same thing. That switch assembly is only held in by spring loaded tabs and are pretty strong..(not sure if a 97) When you pryed you didn't have the butter knife in deep enough to capture the housing, you only went deep enough to capture the cover unfortunately.
There was no screw holding in mine. But the 97 might be slighty different. My cd don't go back that far. And i read some come out with the actual light **** as a key. Which i didn't have either.
Did your switch body just pull out from the bottom?
Mine's supposed to, but it wont pull out from any direction.
I wonder if I have an early 97 or late 96?
On mine. 2002.. Looks exactly like yours.
I just grabbed a butter knife and headed out to take pictures just now. Once you do it once it is a pc of cake.
Does this help?
There was a metal spring clip dead center on the bottom of the assembly
There was a metal spring clip on the right side - top of the assembly
There was a metal spring clip on the left side of the assembly
I stuck in the knife, on the bottom center and pried it directly up. Then grabbed the left side and pulled it out some more.. Then grabbed the whole thing and she came out. (bottom, then left, then out. 3 tabs)
The the rest of the pictures i lost when i upgraded my iphone.. Dang it.. Of the actual pins i soldered.. I touched them all with the the soldering pen. i didn't see anything wrong i just touched them all that had to do with the odometer. (a crap shoot).. Hasn't flickerd, blanked out or i haven't had to pound on dash.. was an excellent fix for me and was a problem for almost 2 years..
