ignition help
78 f-150 with a 302. All original. All of the ignition components are new. Here is my question. Some days pump the gas twice and turn the key she fires right up. Other days she just turns over and over and over and as soon as I let go of the key it will fire. Then some days ill kill the battery before she starts. She also doesnt like to sit still. Start the truck, it will run fine for a few min. then as if the key was turned she dies. Sometimes starts right back up, sometimes its a fight. Then as soon as I let go of the key she fires. Please help. I cant let my girlfriend drive the truck until its more reliable. Thanks in advance.

When it's cranking and wont fire see if you have power at the coil, or better yet the wire at the back of the ignition switch, there is 1 terminal that has power when cranking, if the switch is worn it can fail to power that circuit but will make contact when you release the key, except getting at the switch can be a pain, you can also diagnose this by leaving the key in the run position and then jump the the batt and S terminals on the starter solenoid to crank the engine over from under the hood.
