New to this forum but have used it from time to time lately.
Bought and started a 1953 F100 project that I predict will take me about 3 years due to slow funding. Taking it down to the frame. It came with a solid 429 big block and a C6 that I plan to keep.
So I noticed something strange this weekend during tear down. The passenger side door has a lock below the handle but the driverside does not and never has? No slot for the lock retaining clip or evidence of the hole in the door face being filled.... Different years?
Regardless I am not sure how to approach locks for this truck....thoughts?

Not strange at all. You have, what was called by Ford in 1953 and 54, a Standard Cab. Standard cabs only came with one door lock, on the passenger door. Deluxe Cabs, as they were called in 53 and 54, came with a lot of extras such as door locks on both doors.
This may take it from the #2 question to the #1 question!
These trucks came with a pass side outside door lock only, except for the custom (55, 56) or Deluxe (53, 54) cabs. This was a safety as well as cost saving feature. Most parking in the 50s was parallel to the curb, you were not supposed to exit or enter from the traffic side (even illegal in some jurisdictions). Mid Fifty as well as others sell a retrofit drivers side exterior door lock.
Mid Fifty part #81136 pg. 90 of 2014 catalog. You will also need lock cylinder(s) 3 pcs # 1130-3PC if you want 1 key, 2 cylinders keyed alike #1130-2D to have doors w/1key, ign with another, single cylinder #1131-D if you don't mind doors not keyed alike or if you have an old school locksmith nearby that can rekey cylinder to what you have.
