Question automatic 4x4 problem

i have a used 1994 explorer that doesnt ever seem to be in complete working condition. when one thing is fixed, something else breaks. i guess that is just the standard rule for cars. i have automatic locking hubs and the 4x4 only comes on sometimes. i have to hit the button probably 20 times for it to turn on. i thought it was the button and had a shop check it out when i had something else fixed. they said it was not the button, but something else. any suggestions? i was also wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to find interior parts like door handles and air vents. i have looked everywhere on the internet no luck.

automatic 4x4 problem

Surprised you didn't find any information on it. Try searching here and elsewhere for "transfer case shift motor." The shift motor gets dirty, binds up, and won't shift the T-case. You should be able to find instructions for disassembling and cleaning that motor. There's also supposed to be a self test button on the t-case shift module behind one of the rear panels. This will tell you if the problem lies in the module or elsewhere.
Good luck
