That's crappy customer service.

I wish I could find a decent place up here that didn't charge an arm and a leg for exhaust work. I was quoted $550-$600 for the headers back and that was with me providing the header collector, mufflers and tips. That's not even mandrel bent tubing. Freak'n highway robbery.

$600 is 80 percent of the cost for a nice welder! ... Then ya don't have to subject yourself to dix like that.

Well I damn sure would not give them rude donkeys any of my money, I would go to the next town over, or 2 over...I am sure there is a muffler shop in Indy that is better than that place for sure.

Since you are spending YOUR hard earned money, TELL and SHOW the (pics) and explain what YOU want. FYI being picky can and probably will cost you a little more, but it will be worth it in the end.

Never just give them an idea by vaguely telling them what you want, trust me you will not get what you want, unless you are specific or just do it yourself.

Figure out if you want a jungle gym behind the rear axle and tank or just some turn downs or outs before the rear axle......

$325 is a steal in my area but I'd avoid that shop if that's how they treated you.

Mike, you mean to tell me that our politicians aren't honest!?

$325 isn't the worst. It was just the way I was treated. I notice that this shop isn't open very often. They have regular hours but only seem to be there if they are working on something.......

I am most likely going to have to go to Terre Haute, IN or Bloomington, IN. Those are both about an hour from me. Indy is about 2 hours.

I didn't think I was being picky at all. I just wanted them to see exactly what I was talking about.

The moral of the story is that I should have known better. 2 years ago I took a car into this shop because of rusted brake lines. I wanted all new lines ran. They called when it was done. I picked it up and didn't check their work. I drove around that night and completely lost my brakes. Almost got T boned as I drove out into a state highway. After some investigation they had put 4 compression fittings in different spots and they blew out. I took the car back and they put the brake lines on that time with no charge. So shame on me for trying to give them another chance!!

I'll just add in a small town that ones' reputation, either good or bad, spreads far and wide by word of mouth.

You cannot pay for or buy trustworthiness. It has to be earned.

A little thread ressurection and discussion and update. I haven't been in a real hurry so I still haven't done anything. I did get a pair of flowmaster super 10's from my in laws that are wrapped and under the tree waiting for me on Christmas day. I also ordered the tips I want and the x pipe. I made some calls and found a reputable shop in a neighboring town. About an hour drive but will be worth it. $150 for their pipe and labor. I thought that was great. However, I called three shops today and all three pretty much came out and said that an x pipe on my truck is stupid but they would put it on if I wanted it. I pretty much want the same set up that was pictured earlier in this thread. Does anyone agree with the muffler shops? One shop said I shouldn't bring both pipes over to one side because that will be more pipe on one side but they will pretty much have to because of the front drive shaft. The one good thing about the shop I am going to take it to is that they guy told me for $150 I could stand under the truck with him and tell him where I want everything.

A lot of discussion and opinions can be found on the x pipe thing....

As far as being able to be under the truck at the time of install, go for it. Print out the pics from here and show the guy exactily what you want. But do not tell him how to do his job as far as welding, but mounting and routing the pipes, get in there. lol
