Ford Anti Theft System?
I was told this was because the car used to be a company car (whatever that means).
At first I thought it had to be aftermarket, third party, but then I saw the window sticker that says "Ford Security System Installed", never seen this paticular sticker before. Also when looking under the steering column (replacing burnt out instrument cluster bulbs), I saw it has a big blue "Ford" sticker on the box up under the dash.
The problem I have with it is in order to start the truck, you have to press and hold the button after turning the key to start and hold it during cranking.
I searched the forums and found no reference to this system. I'd like to remove it, but am afraid of permanently disabling the the truck (the box thinking the car was stolen).
Anyone have any info on this? It's definitely not factory, probably dealer installed?
In case anyone cares, the box just has a starter kill relay, basically the starter excite wire is cut and each end run to the box.
After re-splicing that wire, I just unplugged the box, removed all splices into the factory harness (mine was installed without even being soldered, just wrapped through factory wires).
Found some info about it on the focus forums.
Thanks
