My blinkers won't work in my 97 F250HD, no dash arrows or click noises no nothing. The hazards work just fine, with no variation if I move around the tilt wheel. All fuses checked with a test light and they're all fine. The MFS on the column controls everything just fine, wipers, high/low beams, washer fluid, everything. Except for the blinkers!! And the truck needs a sticker last month.
I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it but I tried to install a new radio last night and for some reason it's not working either. The stock radio worked just fine, and now the 12v constant has no power, but the switched power does have power but not much because it won't keep the radio on.
With the switched 12v going to the radio the radio only turns on for a second, then shuts off, and I believe that's because the radio won't run without a 12v constant and 12v switched at the same time.
For the blinkers, I would start by checking the flasher in the incab fuse panel. It is the one you can see when you remove the panel cover. The E flashers is controled by another flasher on the back side of the fuse panel.
On the radio, did you cut and splice the wires, or use a plug in wiring harness? It sounds like you have some wires crossed and are getting an unintensional ground.
I will do that when I get home today..how do I test that?
And yes I just cut and spliced, but the only ones I cut were the ground, constant and switched 12v, what would cause that constant to not have power? I'm pretty stumped by this
same thing happen to my truck
problem fixed by pushing in the hazard but to opperate my blinkers.
only way to get my blinkers to work is to have my hazzard button pushed IN.
no idea why but it works for me
let me know how you make out
Directionals and hazards are on separate fuses, so as said, check fuses again. If you didn't have the batteries disconnected while doing the radio work, you very likely blew a fuse.
Quick and dirty flasher check - switch the two flashers. If that makes the directional work and the hazards fail, then the flasher is indeed failed.
If it's something like described above, where fiddling with the hazard switch makes them work, that indicates a switch problem, probably dirty contacts. You can remove and clean with electrical cleaner and re-test, but if it persists, best to just replace the switch (it's all one combination switch; IIRC it also includes the wiper/washer).
Alrighty I switched the flashers around and guess what..the hazards still worked and the turn signals did not! So I will double check the fuses with a test light now.
Say the fuses were all well and good, what would be my next course of action?
Pull fuse #7 in the interior fuse box, turn the key to RUN, and check each terminal of the socket with a volt meter. One of them should show 12V (or so). Then just to be sure, try a fresh fuse. If still no op, then the next suspect is the switch.
