On so I'm getting impatient with finding someone who is able to help me get my exhaust manifolds off and I needed a bolt to go buy the studs. the question I have is what is the best way to pull the third bolts off the underside on the right hand side (in your in front of engine) it seams that my steering is in the way and I am unable to get into it.
Can't say for sure but you may very well need to lay under it and get the bolts out that way. It really comes down to whatever position you need to be in that is best for you to get to them. One way may be easier for one person to get in then it is for another. Working on these trucks I found myself in many weird spots haha.
I wedged myself down into the engine compartment with one foot on the ground at the corner of the radiator and one foot next to the manifolds when I went to take mine off. Trying to get at the manifold bolts from underneath wasn't any easier, in my opinion.
I used a combination of ratchet wrenches and box end wrenches to get the bolts out. The passenger side, rear, bottom bolt required a "c" shaped wrench.
Soak the bolts in WD40 overnight before you begin. Go slow and work the bolts back and fourth gently until they break loose so you don't wring them off in the heads.
It's no fun but it will save you money. The exhaust guy who did my truck told me most guys won't mess with manifolds these days. Too much trouble. Can't say I blame them.
imho I suggest you go along to your local home depot and pick up a can of pb blaster I have been using it for years and found it to be the best ever for getting rusty nuts and bolts loose its is very runny but it works I sprayed it on the manifold studs on my 300 six they came off with very little effort be patient I sprayed mine 2 days in a row and let it soak real good and to all the guys out there go ahead and try it my customers come back and tell me its the best they have ever used just my two cents worth
