Wire Diagram needed_Back up assist bumper conversion & computer help
2011, 6.2 SD. EX cab. Converting to the rear assist back up prox sensor bumper with factory parts.
The new take off bumper I bought has a round 6 pin male molex connector. The truck chassis harness has square 6 pin male molex connector...figures right.
I need the pin out diagram for the truck harness and the bumper harness as if the truck had this option.
I will be converting the round male molex connectors currently in the new bumper to match the squarish molex male connector on the truck harness.
I have opened up the original bumper harness connector and will be reusing it by populating it with the molex female sockets to mate to the original male truck harness.
The truck harness has all 8 cavities filled with wires. 6 of which are for the sensors the other two are for the licence plate lights. So the truck appears to be factory wired for it?
I could do a point to point as the connectors appear to be keyed the same just different shape? Rather verify with a diagram/schematic verses smoke test
I do still need to purchase the annunciator and its harness which mounts in the drivers door.
Once I have all this straight does anyone know if the computer will automatically pick up on the conversion? (wish full thinking I know). If not can Ford flash it into the command center as that's where it resides.
All this is way above my head, and I can't get 2011 diagrams, the latest I have access to is 2010 I think, and that's at work.
You could be in for a large amount of work and cost. If you got the bumper off the truck out of the junkyard, can you go back and look at the harness? You may need it. You can check out if it's a separate harness or it's a upgraded rear area harness. I thought the back-up system had a separate brain, but that's a guess. Some guys on here work on this late model stuff, maybe they can shed some light on it.
I got the bumper from a guy in Texas who has new take offs. So the bumper harness is there with sensors and a round 8 pin molex, Ill assume its off of a 2013 or 14. My truck has the square 8 pin. I can get the correct molex sockets just need to verify if the pin-out is the same, Ford does offer a 2011 bumper harness for $70. If all else fails I guess its cheap insurance. But Im very apt at this stuff and can re-pin the original bumper harness with a schematic. Who knows it could be the same orientation just different connector? Also I hope your right about the separate brain. Thats a box with the annunciator which mounts in the door. Ford offers that as well for $160. With some luck hopefully that harness exists in the door? Hopefully all it needs is a signal from the reverse light circuit to initiate, which hopefully is in the circuit. Im told the presence of this feature also pops up in the command center and you need to use the command center buttons on the steering wheel to mute it?
After all this screwing around I hope it works without having to take it to Ford for a flash? Oh and they offer a stand alone option kit for this less the bumper. Id like to get this one to work with the purchase of the "brain" just need a road map(schematic). TX!
Here's how they did it in 2005. The only connection I see to the network is the radio mute. You probably could get away without wiring that up. I feel sorry for someone who can't turn the radio down so they can hear their back-up system. Ford seems to call this system the "Parking Aid".
Here's the sensor wiring back at the bumper. This is still 2005, from Autozone's site. It's all I have access to at the moment. If some of the wire colors look the same, you might be able to use these diagrams. I wonder if you can temp wire this up on the bench using a battery charger, and see if it's all going to work.
TX Dave. Any idea where to find an 2011 diagram? Havent called dealer service yet. Was hoping to find it online. No luck yet though. The 11s system is different enough from this. Cant leave well enough alone doncha no.
Dave...Nice! Thanks man! I owe ya a beer or three. If theres anything I can do for you just shout. Im a mechanic as well. I blog on quite a few sites...muscle cars is my thing. I have 35 years experience and have lots of secrets and short cuts on how to repair things.
TX again Steve
