Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, First I would like to say nice to meet you all and I look forward to exchanging info with all you fellow "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" Well here is my first question and wondered if you guys could help me out. A few days ago I bought a 1977 F100 Custom and the 302 had been taken out and replaced with a 1974 351C. The motor does not smoke has plenty of power makes no noise but I noticed that the oil pressure gauge fall's down to nothing after the motor warms up. so i figured the oil sending unit was failing so I began to search for it and have had no luck locating it yet. This is my first 351C so im kinda stumped here. And I was also just wondering what you guys think of the 1974 351C is it a very good engine? maybe some of you currently run one or have in the past? just wondering what your thoughts and opinion's of this cleveland is.
I would suspect you have a 351m instead of a 351c and the later never came in the truck from the factory and has different mounts etc.
for the oil pressure I would get an aftermarket gauge and/or a new sender for the stock gauge. The sender is behind the intake manifold screwed into the block with one wire on it. It's a little hard to get to. What weight oil are you running?
Thanks for the info! Found the sending unit and i am going to change it tomorrow. As for the oil, The seller I picked it up from said he ran 40 wieght oil in it, I am going to do an oil change this weekend (any oil grade suggestions?) As far as C VS M this motor says 351C on the rocker cover and also has a raised # 2 stamped on the upper left corner of the head. (Hope that helps)
since you stated the motor was swapped prior to you owning it, i would ask the previous owner and go with that. the only other way to know, is measure the width of the intake, the 351M is much wider than the 351C
I have always used Shell Rotella 15w-40 and its a good oil.
The 351C is a powerhouse to say the least, yet some have oiling problems, there are many out there with oil passage defective cranks and just a misguided oiling route. You can find out how to fix it by searching throught the forums. I love clevelands and I can't wait until my engine blows up so i can replace it with the 351C on my garage floor.

Well, found a new sending unit and installed it, now the gauge is reading just fine. ever since i bought the truck there has been a hesitation when you first go to take off, it hesitates for a split second then takes off. I have changed the plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter. it also has a new dizzy cap, rotor, points. any ideas as how to fix this problem? I am figuring we are talking carburation now.
