First timer here

Hey there.

New ford owner here, just bought my first project truck to work on. Never done anything on this level with any vehicle ever, so this is all going to be a learning experience for me haha. The victim is a 1982 F-250 XL w/ the 400 in it with only 64k miles on it - snagged it for 700 bucks ! Been doing a ton of research over the past week or so on it just trying to learn everything I can, and a lot of my searches landed me in threads on these forums, so I figured it's probably a good place to sign up. The ultimate goal with this truck is to build it into a badass muscle truck. No idea where to start, but I've got a fair idea of what i'm going for, so at least there's that :P.

I just bought a Ford school bus. I have a lot of general wrenching experience, but not so much on ford busses. So like you, where to start. First thing, I need to learn the differences between a fe 390 and a ft 391. ( If that is what I have) It is a 1972 b series bus. Today I am finding out if a fe distributor will work in an ft. I read that F.E. stands for Ford, Edsel. F.T. stands for Ford Truck. Are the bell housings the same? not sure where to start with the fe ft issue, but if I don't learn, it will probably cost me.

From what I can tell after a few quick searches, it's likely the 390 and 391 share bell housing patterns, but the crank snout and motor mounts are different. Here's a link to a post on these boards I found on the subject:

Hope it helps.
