The truck was running great, but it's time to sale it. The ignition cylinder periodically will stick. So, my son the genius , took a pair of pliers to force it to turn. I get home from work to move it the front yard and the PATS theft is blinking fast as I try to start it. It cranks just not start. I hear the fuel pump come on. I removed the cover on the steering column and there is no damage to the ring around the key cylinder or anything I can see, just the cylinder itself . I tried disconnecting the battery, switching relays, etc. Any ideas ? Thanks
Find out first what the PATS is complaining about.
Turn key to run and let set a few minutes for it to self diagnose.
Watch the Theft light for a two digit blink code and report back.
Good luck.
Recheck the flash code again.
12 is not valid, from my information.
If 12 keeps coming up you will need to do the dash HEC diagnostics as the second means to see what's wrong.
Good luck.
Code 9232 is antenna not connected first, then if antenna is ok the Transceiver is suspect.
Code 9600 is key signal not received. Can be the key or a non coded key or the antenna.
This is why you needed to know what's going on first.
If the key only was faulty then only a new key has to be programmed.
If the Transceiver is faulty a dealer reprogram is needed along with two keys.
The reason is the Pats unit and the PCM 'marry' each other with specific code.
This is what makes the system 'nearly' theft proof.
You cannot just replace parts and units or the system would not be highly Theft resistant..
Good luck..
Hey Ford Blue 2000, what did you find out? I am currently dead in the water with my 2000 f150, 5.4, auto, Lariat. I was in the steering column to fix the slide out connector pins on my mfs switch (hi/lo, wiper, turn). Now I get the same fast flash, after a few moments, code blink 1, blink 2. What did you have to do to get it resolved? And better yet, how did you get the other codes (9232 & 9600)? Sorry to bother you, but it looks like it may still be fresh on mind.
OK, Great news. Went to local pick n pull and found a few trucks same year. I was able to get an antenna ring from around the key cylinder. I had purchased the whole module with harness and all. However on my module, I found that I could unplug the antenna itself from the module.
I had the battery disconnected over niight. After replacing the ring, I put the PATS key in the ignition, off position, then hooked up the battery and NO MORE FLASHING THEFT LIGHT and cranked right up.
I think I may have crushed the ring taking the black plastic cover off that I did not need to take off if I had followed the key cylinder removal process.
Hope this helps someone else, this site has sure saved me a ton of money and time.
