Gauge question: 08 Expedition

Do the temperature and oil pressure gauges actually read anything or are they both set up to show low-normal-high only? We just picked up an 08 Expy SSV and will be running it through the mountains in Western Colorado pulling a horse trailer. It would be nice to see a temp increase on the gauge before it actually overheats.

Yes they read, otherwise there would be no need for a gauge, only an idiot light.

Actually, a number of manufacturers are doing exactly this. Subaru for one. I believe that the oil pressure gauge on my 2011 F150 is one of these.
