Another Oil Pressure Question

I know the oil pressure gauge on my '93 F150 is just an idiot light with a needle, but according to it my pressure keeps dropping. The needle used to register about the center of the gauge at all times. Now it constantly points to the lower portion of the scale. My underatanding is that these gauges are activated at somewhere around 7 psi and below that will not register anything at all. Consequently they should not read slight variations in oil pressure. Am I correct or is my gauge trying to tell me something that I should worry about? I know I should install a real gauge, but just haven't done so yet. Thanks.

put a real pressure gauge on it and see what you have - I had the same issue and found that my rod bearings were down to copper and front main was worn to copper from accessories pulling on it more than the rest....putting in new bearings to fix

Same thing happened to me and it was the gauge (I installed a mech gauge).

I agree, put a mechanical guage on it. the stock guage is either on or off. I think the cut off is 6 PSI for the sender. Anything above 6, registers normal, anything less, nothing. if your seeing a 'in between' reading, I would say it's the sender. but better to make sure. My normal was reading between the 'm' and the 'a' in 'normal'.

Mechanical guage should read 30-45 cold idle. 20-35 hot idle, 45-60 anywhere off idle.

If yours is less than 20 hot idle, start saving for new crank and bearings.
