Thats a good thought, I never laugh at those Ideas, we'd probably be amazed at how many inventions that we take for granted started out that way.
That does remind me that I once used a cut off funnel and a piece of flexable radiator hose to build a ram air for my 81 volkswagon diesel pickup truck. I gained 5mph on a particular long incline near my house. those little diesels needed everything they could get
i secured the snorkel with zip ties on the bolts and stuff under the bumper. had to kinda tape up the snorkel from in the engine compartment to seal out any of the hot air in the engine compartment leaking into the snorkel.gonna jb weld it completely and just keep one snorkel there and have another one on stock location for weather purposes. i recommend having a verey verey fine mesh or gauze screen or just crush the screen and force into the snorkle front cause i checked my filter and i had alot of bugs, they come to the light which is right where u'r snorkle is sucking.

Wanted to express my bewilderment on subject of K&N not offering a cold air intake for f150 5.4l FX4 Lariat. After I dropped almost 3 bills on FIPK, I installed the unit and noticed that the factory unit had a sealed box w/ a tube that entered driver's fender well behind headlight.
Can't believe K&N could not figure a way to use that area for at least a little cooler air for the intake.....Has anyone had the same thoughts?
Thought Tectron I had good point about creative thinking on some of these problems. Seems like someone might have come with some kind of hose connection fix. Maybe wouldn't make much difference.
claynewt - i completely agree. i was considering the FIPK until i read ProjectMPG and saw those air temps for the different set ups. i think it's crazy to spend all that money and significantly INCREASE the temperature of the air going into your engine. i opted for wrapping my hoses and stock airbox in cool tape (expensive but double digits not triple) and relocating my intake duct to the side of the radiator behind the grille (hopefully this weekend) to get some cool fresh air in there.
I feel the same way as far as K&N goes. Charging a ton of money to replace an airbox with a cool air duct with an open element that sucks in Hot air from the engine compartment. It seems like robbing peter to pay paul, better flow with a lot more heat versus a little less flow with much less heat. In my honest opinion a k&n drop in filter would probably perform better, thats what Im using.
Especially on smaller displacement engines since Ive noticed the air box on a 460 equipped vehicle is the same one as a 4.9 equiped vehicle.
I wish there were a well engineered ram air style setup that that will fit on a 92-96 ford trucks. If anyone knows of one post a link or company name.
Tectron1 - i dropped in an Accel Kool Blue filter in my newly taped stock airbox. i agree with you on the RAM air setup. i searched and searched for one for our trucks but didn't come up with anything. only thing i found was a home-fabbed set up that Justin (mustanggt221) has. he bought an aftermarket hood for a Lightning and rigged it up to push in the cold air. he says it works well but i don't feel confident enough in my tech skill to fab it up correctly and i think it would be costly to screw it up. if you find anything let us know please.
