The Canadian Vin Info Thread

I have done the oven cleaner trick. An old painter showed me that one about 40 years ago. I have done it several time, but then one time I did a Ford rating plate, taken two layers off and ready to remove the third when my wife hurt herself. By the time I got back to the plate it was nice shinny unpainted steel with the stampings easy to read.
The hood and grill are 55, but being as old as the truck is, there really proves nothing. Also, I would never bet the farm on an original color truck based solely on what 'apperas to be original paint. If you can read the paint code from the back of the plate, you should also be able to read the rest of the serial number information. If not, get the number off the frame, it is on the drivers side close to the firewall.

I think I'll try oven cleaner. The plate can't get too much worse than it is. I'll guess the oven cleaner of today lacks the punch of yesterday's!
Pretty sure it's original color. As I removed the paint, no other color's appeared and the part deep down inside behind the seat was the same green/blue.
I can read the VIN stamping and I know the color code is 44. Just looking to see if there is anyone out there who might have access to what this means.
Oh.. I apologize for posting the same thing twice. A combination of low typing skill and general lack of knowledge for everything 'forum' like made that happen before I could put a stop to it. Shesh.... sorry

I have a bit of an issue with a (presumably Canadian built) 1947 One Ton Ford. I am restoring for someone who has no title - yet. I took the serial number off of the frame rail next to the steering box...and the numbers make no sense from anything I have seen thus far. It is 210H47-78496. Had is started with 799Y I would have felt that we were on our way to deciphering this 47 v-8 flathead. Can anyone assist?

3. Does anyone have information on Trim 16?
Thanx,

Thanx Wayne,
The reason for the confusion is because the seller was quite sure it was a '49 and not a '50. So I wasn't sure if there was any history of them putting the 50 on models sold and registered as 49.
From what I can see the interior was sort of a tan brown, but I wasn't sure if that's what the trim code meant or if it denoted some other type of interior options.

The serial number says it's a 50, so that's that. However, many times an early built unit could have been registered to the year prior if it was sold before Jan 1, 1950. We see more often left over vehicles from one year being registered the next year; ie, a late 1950 model sold in 1951 licensed/titled as a 1951. It all depended on the intelligence of the person behind the desk.

1948 f-47
I have acquired what I believe is a 1948 Ford 1/2 ton, 4 speed floor shift but the vin nos have been lost in the mists of time. Heres is what I can find, on the rail near the steering box it is stamped LD81H48-12710, can anyone decode this? the engine heads read Mercury, Left head reads B100, Right head reads NC1300. Does anyone know what the cid or HP is for this engine, It may not be the original but I cannot tell.
