Brake booster mounting

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I can't find it.....

I want tho put power brakes on a '65 F100 2wd and have the booster setup from a '78 F150. Is this a direct bolt on or do I need to modify the push rod? Or change the brake pedal? Bolt holes look like they line up OK. The front suspension from the '78 has already been swapped in. Thanks.

I had to make a bracket for my 63 and I used a 79 booster and master. If I remember correctly the rod matched up fine and bolted to the pedal.

Do you have the firewall brackets and the articulated linkage?

If so it bolts right up.

If not, you need the brackets.

Yes I have the whole assembly. That is good news! Thanks for the replies.

Should have a flat bar from the pedal through he fire wall to the bracket (articulated). You need to drill a hole in the brake pedal arm and mount the bar a little lower on your brake pedal. You need less leverage with the PB setup. This will also move the pedal closer to the floor. A new flat metal and rubber gasket from a Mustang supplier will help seal off engine gases from the cab. Assuming you have all the rest of the system.

Although this is a direct bolthole mount, some modification is needed to make the pedal work. I have my original pedal behind my 76 booster set. Some suggest a 1" block at the firewall to move the system forward or you can relocate the connect point 1 1/8" closer towards the firewall inside with a new hole.

Try connecting the pedal without it and the pedal is sticking far out from under the dash.

Friend in 65 Ford made big changes behind the sheet metal to the structure of the cab and front clip. The 64 back mounts very different from the 65-79, where many things are swappable. FYI

Brake booster upgrade

I'm upgrading my 66 F-100 to power brakes . I am using parts from my 76 F250 4x4. how easy is it to put the brake switch on the pedal. I'm pretty sure that the pedal is swappable but what is the best method to attach the bumper that the switch pushes against?. Also if I use my 1976 pedal will I need to modify anything?

1973/79 F100/350: There are TWENTY TWO different brake pedals, NINETEEN different power brake boosters, SEVENTEEN different master cylinders and SEVEN different clutch pedals, I kid you not!

Whatever master cylinder/booster is used, the pedals must match it.

The pedals have stamped Ford ID numbers on them, otherwise figuring out which is which, would be a royal PITA.

I put power brakes on my 66. I found a set of brackets off a 66 in the JY. Bumper to Bumper had a 66 booster/MC that bolted right on. It included the brake pedal rod. It fit and worked perfect. The only downside is that it was still the single pot MC.

I bolted the power booster to the firewall today, everything lines up perfect. The pedal sits closer to the floor, but looks just about right. I'm gonna see how it works...I can always swap pedals or modify if needed.

I have a couple of the articulating bracket sets and a set of brackets I bought for a 65 Mustang that I don't need.

I mocked the Mustang brackets on the firewall of my 64. If I flip them upside down and drill one new hole in each of them, the booster will sit in the proper position.

Im going to look at the articulating brackets and see if I can make them work.

Mr. Wilson, Not to argue with your post, don't know why there are so many different pieces.

As I posted prior, re-drilling the contact point was all that was required to make my 66 3 spd pedal mate up with the 76 donor auto booster set.

Sometimes it requires the will and skill to make it work, not Ford engineering.
