Gauges

Here's my shot at it. First, consider that my F150 is my first older Ford and I'm not very experienced on the issues from a first hand perspective, only from what I've read. But I do plan to put a triple gauge set on the A pillar. The gauges I'll install will be:
- Oil pressure because that dash gauge is completely useless
- Water Temp because I don't know if the dash gauge is reliable or not and I'd really like to have a handle on it
- Transmission Temp becasue I have an E4OD and I know that temp is a major killer
I'm thinking seriously of using the GlowShift | White Elite 10 Color Gauges for Cars and Trucks. They're expensive but they have programmable high/low thresholds to visually alert you when a limit is exceeded.
My gauge selection is based upon my own fears/concerns/fascinations. Others may differ, and yours may differ. I guess it comes down to what you are most worried about and want to keep a close eye on.

Thanks Island time
Yea my BD GT has my Trans and Wather temp on
But like you have stated dash ones are not that depending
I wasnt sure if I should figure my AF and monitor that
Along with Exhaust for when I pull
My Programmer also has a LOAD meter but unsure what that means.lol or how to read
And the oil what about oil temp?

The 4.6 is a gas engine isn't it? If so, I'm not sure that exhaust temp is really anything worth monitoring as it is in a diesel, but perhaps those that tow a lot can offer a different opinion.
Vacuum? Sure, if that's something you want to watch. Some people do, some don't. That's why it's so hard to offer an opinion to somebody on what gauges they should install. As I said before, much of it comes down to personal preferences.
If your monitor will show you instant and average fuel economy it could be well worth watching that. I put a meter on my '09 E250 and paid attention to the readings on a steady basis for a couple months. On island where I live our fastest road is 40mph and we only have a few miles of that, so a lot of time is spent at lower RPMs where fuel injected engines don't do so well. By paying attention to the gauge I was able to make a noticable improvement in my average mileage, and since we pay $0.75 per gallon more than on the mainland, it can really add up. The eye opener for me was at highway speeds. At 70 I was getting 17mpg (roof ladder rack certainly doesn't help), but if I slowed to 55 my mileage went up to 21mpg. So I set cruise control at 55, sit in the right lane, crank up the tunes, and enjoy the scenery without worrying about my wallet getting emptied.
