Sounds pretty easy then.
I am going to perform this alternator swap since I have a 1000 amp invertor I am trying to make use of. I think the two battery setup is a must to make this invertor more useful.
sometimes you will have to split the case completely to do a rotation. not hard at all, use a toothpick to hold the brushes in the retainer when reassembling. there is a small hole in the bottom case of the alt. to put the toothpick through, when assembled just pull out the toothpick.
I am thinking about putting a 100amp alternator into my ice cream truck to help run my freezer. The freezer needs 3400watts to get started, but drops significantly once it's running (I have a 3000w inverter with a 6000w peak). My deep cycle marine battery will handle the load, but my 55amp alternator has to really crank to recharge it. Since I make mostly short runs, this can be a problem. My battery has only died once, but I don't want it to happen again. Hence, the decision to up my alternator. My questions are: Is it a good idea? Do I need a different voltage regulator with the new alternator? Do I need any new wiring to handle the bigger load? Should I go higher than 100amp (I also have an 800watt stereo system)?
