cutting out.. Code P0306 Internal Control Module Keep Alive
I was hauling wood so i set my Infinity to 80hp ran great for a while until i started coming up a hill on the way home. It started spitting and sputtering wanting to die. I made it home saw that was the only new code ive never seen before.. put truck back on stock setting and started it again, still running funny. Asking for help? Dont wanna drive away and break down!! I was also low on fuel but not out.. just put 20 in now.
do you have a fuel pressure gauge. have you done the in-tank mods. using my phone so I can't see if there's a signature. what year model what kind of truck
I haven't looked up the code yet. my first suspicion is that your pick up foot may be broken off. I know I found mine broken off when I went to do the in-tank mods. that means you're not able to pick up all the fuel in the bottom of the tank and if it was low you could be experiencing fuel starvation. a fuel pressure gauge at this point would really help.
I added fuel it seemed to have helped, but still had the cose, just cleared it, gonna check it in a few after a small drive. I can do tests with the infinity, if i knew exactly what PID it was i could monitor it provided it was a readable PID from stock PCM...
I don't think that our PCM monitors fuel pressure. you can tap into the back of a fuel bowl and run a mechanical gauge. I've got a little electrical sending unit the feeds a gauge in the cab. that way if I ever start to lose fuel pressure all know it right away. a lot of guys will tap in with a mechanical gauge in the engine bay just for troubleshooting purposes. you'll need to test it at idle and under load. it may look normal at idle but as soon as you put a load on it or a demand that pressure will drop if the pump is weak or filters are clogged.
Does sound like time for Hutch and Harpoon mods. Here's a pretty good thread on the subject to get you started. Fuel pick up foot (or umbrella, thingamajig, whatever) is pn E5TZ-9J306-BA in case yours broke.
The P0603 will set if power to the PCM keep alive circuit is lost, like when the batteries have been disconnected. If you clear it and it comes back without having disconnected the batteries, I'd suspect a wiring problem.
The code will stay there until cleared. It sets when batteries are disconnected. Check for bad connections at the batteries, corroded cables, etc. Also the power splice on the DS fender under the air cleaner, pic below. Not shown is the black plastic cover says high voltage. Should say high amperage but o well. That can rot away and get iffy.
The Infinity can do everything including clear that code. I don't have one but read around I bet it's easy.
I have cleared the codes. The day this all happened and i added fuel and it starting running right, i immedietly cleared them. Always have a light on from something so dont check it daily. Checked yesterday and it was back on. Batteries are clean and tight. No problem with the battery wires. Brand new alternator, and the charging system works... so i may have yo check that out... i just cleared codes again today... so after a drive tomorrow ill see if its back again...
