I have a 2001 F150 V6, the check engine light just came one. I know in past vehicles I've owned there were ways to use a jumper wire and use the flashing check engine light to decode the engine code. Has anyone written or posted the diagram to do this with the 2001 F150 V6?? Please respond ASAP.
I know this isn't ASAP, but I just became a user July 21.
OBD II diagnostic trouble codes use both letters and numbers. The letters make it tough to retrieve the codes in a usable format except with a scan tool, OBD II code scanner or compatible computer software and adapter cable (most commonly used with laptops).
The tools can be obtained at your local parts house or online and vary considerably in price according to the features and functions available on the tool.
I have not found any other effective method. If anyone else has I would welcome the knowledge....
Just go down to AutoZone and they will scan your computer for free. I just did it on my 98 last week and i got and Oxygen Sensor Code. It usually tells you the code number and the name of it. The Scan tools at Auto Zone dont give you all the information that a dealers scan tool will but usually its like at least 50 bucks to get it scanned at a dealer. When did the light turn on. Have you filled up your gas tank lately like in the past day. If so try tighting your gas cap. Sometimes that will trip the check engine light.
