My latest acquisition.
My latest acquisition.
I landed a gig out in Alberta so I needed to get myself a 4x4 truck. A couple weeks ago I picked up this here 2004 F150 FX4 with the 5.4L. It's got 240,000km on it, so it's not low miles but it's not high miles. The transmission was completely rebuilt not too long ago and the 4x4 vacuum actuators were replaced. The spark plugs were done at 190,000km so thankfully I won't have to worry about that issue! Unfortunately, a couple days after I bought it it started to make a nasty knocking noise and the whole truck would jerk and shake - but only at low RPM and this was a confusingly intermittent issue. I needed the truck running perfectly and fast as I leave on Friday so I took it into the dealer to have them figure it out for me. $875 later and I have new variable camshaft timing solenoid valves installed and a steering column wiring harness replaced under a warranty recall. So far so good. They also wanted to sell me a timing set for the low cost of $4,000 but I passed on that offer.
So far, I've given it a Bully Dog tuner, K&N intake, and Magnaflow exhaust. Nothing special but I wanted to change it up a bit. I also corrected all the sun faded black plastics so everything is now black again. You may also notice that I have a good relationship with my Snap-On dealer.
