Dana 44 solid axle question
Hi guys,
I'm in the middle of rebuilding the knuckles and hubs on the D44 SA and I'm hoping y'all can answer a few questions. I'm not able to post images, otherwise I would because my descriptions may be confusing.
** There is visible wear on the contact between the face on the inner C flange surface and the backside of the inner axle. I cannot prove there is supposed to be or ever was any thrust washer, wear disc, or even any type of seal. If there is not supposed to be contact or sealing, then I presume that dirt and water can enter the axle tube all the way to the inner axle seal???
** There is a small seal provided in the Timkin three piece seal and bearing set SBK1 that I cannot identify. There is the needle bearing, the large lipped seal for the axle to spindle, and the smaller one. Anyone know where the small seal goes?
** Is it possible to source the plastic thrust washer on the outer half-shaft between the shaft and the spindle?
