Hi Everyone- I am new to the board and am looking for some assistance on how to replace a fron passenger side baring. I not a mechanic by any means so the more details the better.
I had a mechanic ride in my truck about regarding some road noise to which he quickly said that it was the baring. He said that it was not coverered under by extended base warranty & their shop could fix it for about 350. I did check with ford on this and it is not covered.. any informaiton or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks-Matt
Your best bet is to get a hold of a Chilton's or Haynes manual. If you don't want to buy one, you can often find them at libraries and such. The vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com are the equivalent of a Chilton's manual.
This is an easy fix. Why would they charge so much?
Hey, go get a second opinion. I've done a many of truck bearings, your talking about a 30 minute job.
I have a '98 Sport, when I changed my brakes I saw nothing out of the ordinary in the way of the front rotor/spindle/bearing area.

Hi friend:
I suppose that back and front wheell bearings are same as complexity goes for changing. First you must take of the nut of the axle.(the big nut) Of course the tire too. Second you must disassemble de brake pads. Then pull out the hub where the outer bearing rims are. There is supposed to exist an extractor for this. Maybe there are threads that will allow you to push them out. These rims are a pain in the .... to pull out. Dremel use is not discarded for home mechanics. Putting the new rims is a pancake. Must get proper ball bearings of composed contact (axial and radial thrusts) The iner rim of the bearing that goes in the axle is easy to take you either grind a seccion of it or blow a hammer into it against an anvil until it breaks. Then you can check sealing ring, pads, maybe take advantage of purging new brake liquid and clean de hidraulic cilinders seals etc of the brakes. You must ask yourself why that bearing began to shout up if you vehicle is relatively new. Maybe during previous brake service your hub was banged to buggery with a hammer which is what rat mechanics do endlesly onto vehicles when boss is not on sight. This is the primary reason why wheels begin to noise up prematurely so take care who does the job and ask for no hammers on your repairs. Always. Luck Richard.
Thanks for all of the information! I bought the truck used with 26k miles on it and it has been a lemon since the day I got it. This is the third time I have had a baring issue but the first time it has been a front baring. I have so many problems with this piece of @&*#, it is unbelieveable...
I have also had the 4 wheel drive go out, rear windshield wiper motor die, cruise control twice, the levers on both seat tilts are bent. The lumbar air support chambers are poped..I am only 150lbs so you got me on this one, the arm rest has cracked off and I have had a O2 sensor go out
I would like to trade it in and get a mustang but after the problems and poor craftmans ship with this one, I am reluctant to buy another Ford. Besides I heard the 3650 tranny in the mustang is junk anyways.
Well, sorry for the vent but thanks for the help!!

Does Ford use a rotor/hub combo for the 2wd models? Wheel bearings on the rotor/hub combo deals are a piece of cake. I'm guessing this isn't the case from all of the above posts, but wanted to double check.
